The Alt Tag

Any image on your site should include an alt tag. This tag allows you to put in a text alternative to the image which will greatly enhance the visit for those users with disabilities or have just turned images off.

The text within the alt tag will be read by many of spiders that visit your website and therefore will get indexed. Therefore you can take the opportunity to get a relevant keyword phrase alongside your images. Not all search engines will give some weight to the content of your alt tags, but it's an opportunity that should be taken for those that do.

The syntax of the Alt Tag should look like this

<img src=“rank-outsiderLogo.jpg” width=“200” height=“30” alt=“rank-outsider website optimisation logo”>

Try to aim the content of the alt tags towards the phrases already used within your title tag, description tag and the body content. You should describe the image and not just use it as an opportunity to fill it full of your keywords.

If you would prefer us to undertake an evaluation and update of your alt tag usage and other meta tags then go to our Search Engine Optimisation page to review the services we offer, or if you would prefer we can offer a Consultancy Service to those who would just like some advice.
